Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

This course is the first of two introductory courses to the science of language. Students are familiarized with basic tenets and methodologies in Linguistics, with special emphasis on the descriptive, non-regulatory character of modern linguistics and the equality of all dialects, varieties, and languages. Students are further introduced to different levels of linguistic analysis; in particular, this first semester covers the levels of phonetics-phonology, morphology and word-formation processes, and syntax. The data of analysis come from English. During the semester, students get hands-on practice in analyzing linguistic data in the form of exercises and self-assessment tests.
