This course offers an introduction to the poetry of England from the medieval period to the twentieth century. The most important British poets will be studied along with the historical, cultural and social contexts within which their poetry became possible. Alongside the primary texts, supplementary handouts and criticism will be provided, thus ensuring the deeper understanding of the historical-literary period under study.
