Περιγραφή Μαθήματος
WELCOME TO DIGILANG!
Aiming to prepare students for a professional career as EFL educators, this course deals with digital applications in English language learning. It covers issues related to teaching English through digital media technologies while at the same time it explores issues related to digital integration in foreign language education.
The course starts with a discussion of developments in language learning and technology through an overview of the notion of computer assisted language learning and of the latest technological developments including artificial intelligence. It continues with three main parts. The first part focuses on digital content and it explores the questions of how, where and what kind of digital content is appropriate for the EFL classroom, exploring the case of digital repositories and interactive textbooks. It then moves discuss the open movement and the benefits which result from the use of the Open Educational Resources (OERs) and open licenses, such as Creative Commons. The second main part of the course explores a number of digital multimodal genres, such as wordclouds, infographics, podcasts and digital stories and it discusses their role in the foreign language classroom. The third part, digital practices, examines foreign language pedagogies which integrate digital literacies, methodologies of synchronous and asynchronous online teaching and European frameworks for digital and multimodal literacies which centre around the concept of digital competence for both educators and learners.
During the semester students have the opportunity to present the projects they develop for this course to their colleagues. No specialized computer knowledge is required for this course. Students are assessed through project work or a final exam.
