Hello and welcome to our Intonation of English course!

This course aims at  helping you reflect on the importance of the way in which the communicated messages are produced and on the impact they have on the hearer.  You will be  exposed to  the main prosodic features of Standard English;    special emphasis is  laid on the different functions of intonation so that its close relationship with attitude, grammr/syntax, pragmatics and larger units of spoken discourse becomes obvious.  References are also made to the intonation of Modern Greek or other languages for teaching purposes.
