The module introduces students to the conventions of the genre of drama and examines contemporary Anglophone plays through the sociohistorical, cultural and political context of the 20th and 21st centuries. We analyze representative British and American texts - both canonical and less known - spanning from 1953 to 2017. The thematc link which connects all texts is the concept of crisis understood widely, raising thus questions of existential angst, social class, mental illness, gender, sexuality and race among others.
