Internal Medicine II

(54362) -  Michael Samarkos

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

Internal Medicine II focuses on the differential diagnosis of common symptoms and clinical syndromes. It is based on the knowledge which the students have acquired in Internal Medicine I.

During this course the students learn, in a problem-oriented way, to combine the knowledge they have acquired about the symptoms, clinical examination findings and the laboratory and imaging characteristics of the various disease entities to reach a diagnosis.

The students learn to construct a list of possible diagnoses, to evaluate the clinical and laboratory and imaging findings of the patient and to order the appropriate tests to confirm the diagnosis.

The course includes lectures, in which the students are taught the theoretical basis for the differential diagnosis of each symptom/clinical syndrome and clinical practice, in which the students take the history, examine and study the medical record of a patient and then discuss with the tutor the possible diagnoses and suggest the necessary steps to reach a final diagnosis. There will also be training on the diagnosis of common emergencies in the Simulation Centre.
