Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

In this course students learn basic pathogenetic mechanisms of common and uncommon diseases. The course has been developed based on the existing knowledge acquired in previous semesters and is built towards understanding how the alteration/disturbance of physiological pathways may cause disease. Most of the lectures are devoted to common mechanisms shared in several diseases (i.e. inflammatory and immune mechanisms, chronic tissue damage, mechanisms operating in oncogenesis and leading to pain and other constitutional symptoms). Other lectures will cover the general processes of the most relevant causes of human diseases (cardiovascular disease and cardiorespiratory failure, hematological disorders, neurological and skin disorders, integrating contributions from different disciplines (i.e. general pathology, immunology and oncology).
