Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The course places at the center of the analysis the issue of Governance of science and technology and studies the ways that technosciences are co-produced with democracy and the democratic governance of technosciences and innovations. The course is following and is based and influenced on the co-production idiom that stresses the co-production of science and technology with processes of science and technology policy and socio-political orders. 

The main research questions that will be addressed and analyzed: How and in what way decisions are made in relation to the governance of science and technology? Governance is understood not only in terms of the institutional dimensions of science and innovations but also as processes of governing scientific research and social organization. Governance as governing is a socio-political process where different actors have roles and agencies. We shall follow an approach based on case studies from: biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, synthetic biology, chemistry and environmental sciences and green innovations. 

The course studies the way that science and technology is governed and is evaluated in the research institutions and the universities. It focuses on the role of experts and intermediaries in the making of innovations and their role in establishment and the evaluation of emerging technologies. The role of users, consumers, regulatory agencies, NGOs, citizens groups in the making of science and grass roots innovations and in the constructive technology assessment will be studies and analyzed. It focuses on how responsible and open research and innovation can be shaped and legitimized.
