Contemporary Themes in applied psychology: aggression

This course aims to examine some of the most contemporary topics in the discipline of applied psychology. Applied psychology investigates the use of psychological methods and findings of scientific psychology from various sub-fields – including, among others, healthcare, education, social services, criminal justice – with an aim to solve practical problems of human behavior and experience. The course focuses on a different area of application in each academic semester. In the current semester, the focus will be in the application of psychology in criminological and legal settings. The course will include a broad illustration of the psychology of violence and aggression across the life course. Specific topics that will be covered include biological and psychological models of criminal behavior, victimology, the relationship between mental illness with crime. Αbuse, rape, domestic violence, femicide, and hate crimes are also included, from a theoretical and practical approach.
